Liverpool resume their domestic campaign as the only English side to have clinched victory on Matchday 1 of the UEFA Champions League. The five-time European champions can now switch their focus on moving up in the Premier League standings.

“We know we've not reached our potential in terms of playing at our best,” the attacking midfielder said before reflecting on how mental power helped them beat Ludogorets in midweek:
“But with the character we showed the other night, we know we'll reach that.”
Mario Balotelli finally scored his first goal in a Liverpool shirt, in midweek. Fans of the Merseyside Reds will be hoping that there is much more to come from the Italian striker.
The odds favour Liverpool ahead of Saturday’s evening kick-off away to West Ham. Records tell that the visitors have lost only once in their last 11 league games against the Hammers. Captain Steven Gerrard, who successfully converted a last-second penalty in his side’s 2-1 win against Ludogorets on Tuesday, also shares a special joy when playing against West Ham; he has found the net seven times against that team.
Meanwhile, the home crowd at Upton Park could see Alex Song make his full debut alongside Morgan Amalfitano and Carl Jenkinson. A stunning win for the Hammers would see them go a point above Liverpool.
