About

SRF 1 history, coverage, features

SRF 1 is a Swiss televisión channel broadcasting its contents in German. It was launched on March 1, 1953 under the name SRG, but it would be rebranded to TV DRS five years later. The channel would undergo four more rebrandings before settling for its current name in 2012. SRF 1 is owned by the Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen and is a sister channel to SRF zwei and SRF info.

The channel is considered as a full-service TV station, with most of its content being produced in-house. SRF 1 has aired entertainment shows, education programs, arts programs, news and current affairs shows, drama shows, and documentaries.

Speaking about sports, SRF 1 has served as an overflow channel to SRF zwei, one of its sister channels that has handled football coverage of the Swiss top-flight and other events featuring the Swiss National Football Team.

The channel was launched as an analog channel back in the day, but it evolved to a High-Definition channel on February 29, 2012. Both feeds are available for users to watch on select pay-tv carriers across the country.
