The Italian striker recently uploaded an image about videogame character Mario Bros. in his Instagram account, starting controversy and generating his confirmed ban.

Mario Balotelli has been banned for one match and fined with 25,000 pounds by the Football Association after being investigated by a racist image posted in his Instagram account. This ban will be applied immediately, destroying Brendan Rodgers' plan of making the Italian part of the squad that will face Arsenal on Sunday.

On December 2, Balotelli posted a picture of video game character Mario Bros , which included racist and anti-semitic remarks about the character's appearance. Later, "Super Mario" issued an apology, even sharing with his followers his foster mother is Jewish, meaning he did not want to hurt anybody. Neither the club nor the player will appeal this decision, and it is yet to be determined if the team will take further action against the striker.

Here's Balotelli's original Instagram picture.

Once after the penalty was revealed, the player used his Twitter feed to state his opinion on the matter.

Over the past few years, the FA has exercised a zero-tolerance policy regarding social media insults by players. Those who have been banned or fined include Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Cameroonian Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Ryan Babel, among others.
