After a rather successful beginning to the season, Alvaro Negredo has slowly disappeared from Pellegrini’s plans. The former Sevilla striker has lost his battle to start next to Aguero, to teammate Edin Dzeko.

The Spanish striker has not started a game since March 22, 2014, in an uncomplicated fixture against Fulham won by the Citizens 5-0. Clearly, Pellegrini does not consider him a starter, at least not in recent games.

Pellegrini, who has been relying on Dzeko and Jovetic, will likely keep Negredo on the bench against Aston Villa

However, Negredo has not abandoned dreams of making the Spanish National team and boarding a plane to Brazil this summer. Still, it seems unlikely, especially considering the competition he faces in La Furia Roja.

Costa, Llorente, Villa, Torres and Soldado are all contenders for the striker position on la Furia Roja

In fact, although the Spanish player would play on most national teams, he may be second to the infinite list Del Bosque can choose from. With the likes of Diego Costa, David Villa, and Fernando Llorente, all of whom are having a phenomenal season with their respective teams, a call for City’s striker seems unlikely.
