The three-time FIFA World Player of the Year reiterated his desire to retire from professional soccer at Newell's Old Boys.
FIFA World Player of the Year Lionel Messi admitted that if he were to leave Barcelona it would only be to return to a club from his native Argentina.

"In Europe I want to play for Barcelona, I'd stay here always. The more time I can stay here, the better for me, I feel really comfortable and very liked. But before retiring I want to play in my country, I'm very sure that I want to play in Argentina. It is a dream of mine and it will come true," Messi declared to Buenos Aires sports newspaper Ole.

Since arriving on the world-stage Messi has always affirmed his intentions to one day return to Newell's Old Boys, the Rosario-based club where he commenced his youth career.

Messi, whose home has been Spain for more than a decade now, has always admitted his love for Argentina, even if his biggest achievements have occurred on European soil.

Having recently been crowned World Player of the Year for the third successive year, Messi has the world at his feet, but the player still believes he has plenty to offer and many more titles still to win.

"The important thing is to continue this path with Barcelona and to continue to win things, the same with the national team. But I already said this, I'm not obsessed about winning the fourth trophy and those things, I'm not like that, I'd prefer to win things between us all as a team," affirmed the 24-year-old.

Finally, Messi expressed his delight for having received the Ballon d'Or from none other than Brazilian soccer legend Ronaldo.

"I loved seeing him. I stayed watching his goals on the big screen of the place, very impressive, a spectacular striker and he is always in a good mood, he always has a smile [on his face].

"It is an honour, for him to have given me the trophy. Another dream come true, because as a child I always admired him, he was an extraordinary finisher," he concluded.
