Telemundo and Peacock saw record breaking numbers over the course of the group stages at this year's World Cup,

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup group stages now done and dusted, attention turns towards the really exciting part of the competition - the knockout rounds.

This year's World Cup has been an absolute smashing hit, with plenty of goals, thrills, and heartbreaking moments to keep fans talking for quite some time.

Thus, it is not surprising that many television networks are seeing some record-breaking numbers, and Telemundo, in conjunction with Peacock, is no exception.

The Spanish-language network, which providers viewers access to all the action on Qatar on Telemundo, Univision, and Peacock, has seen its numbers reach new levels ever since the tournament got underway last month.

As expected, and given its target base, the match featuring Argentina and Mexico saw massive audience viewership, with 9 million people tuning in over the course of that game. In addition, the clash between Argentina and Mexico now is the most-watched match in Spanish-language history.

A total of five games during the group stages saw at least four million tuning in at various points, with the matches shown below. All times are shown in Eastern Standard Time (EST):

Although Mexico were unfortunately eliminated during the group stages, with teams like Argentina, Spain, and Brazil all still in the competition, there is definitely the likelihood that viewing numbers will still remain high among the network's target base.

The network achieved an average of total audience delivery (TAD) of approximately 2.07 million viewers per match during the 48 group stage games across the Telemundo, Universo, Peacock and Telemundo streaming platform, which is an increase on the approximate 1.97 million at this same stage during the 2018 edition of this competition.

In fact, only the 2014 World Cup, which was staged in Brazil, had higher viewership (and streaming) among Spanish-speakers than the current tournament over the course of the last eight iterations of this competition.

With plenty of games still to be played, there is the high possibility that the 2022 FIFA World Cup will reach even higher numbers as the tournament reaches its crunch stages over the next two weeks.
