Fabregas finalised his move to Barcelona this week.
Francesc Fabregas made 212 appearances for Arsenal. He scored 35 goals for the Gunners as well. Stats, however, are just mere numbers. Fabregas provided some gorgeous passes, set up some wonderful goals and led the Gunners to some spectacular wins in his time at the club.

Fabregas was a bright star in almost all matches as well as in some matches against Tottenham. He won his way into the hearts of millions of Arsenal fans. Until Fabregas signed on the dotted line for Barcelona, the Arsenal fans didn’t really believe that he would walk out of the door so easily. After all, he had been through all the ups and downs with every Gunner in the past eight years.

Arsenal is a very family-like club. Arsene Wenger has led the club for more than a decade and has brought in various brilliant players through the door. Those who have departed have almost always had good things to say about the club. Some players made themselves household names by playing for this London side.

Very similarly, Wenger himself always has good things to say about departing players. He appreciated Fabregas’ talents but mentioned that the club has to come together to compensate for the loss of their former captain and perhaps for the loss of Samir Nasri.

Many Arsenal fans, me included, must have seen Fabregas sign for Barcelona. Cameras around the world broadcast the moment in which Fabregas put pen to paper while sitting close to the Barcelona President and other members of the hierarchy. He was given the same jersey number that he wore at Arsenal, the number four.

The fans of Arsenal must have felt a slight sense of regret and even disbelief. This transfer saga occupied the British and Catalonian press for much of the summer. Fabregas had finally willingly turned his back on the club that really made him the player that he is.

His talents and skills will be missed by many. However, his attitude in the past two seasons might make Arsenal fans want to forget him. While he never really sounded disrespectful to Arsenal, he never seemed to have his mind and heart focused fully on the Gunners.

As each season passed, his home seemed to call to him more and more. Fabregas has returned to where he first discovered the joys of playing football. The question which remains now is whether he will get the love and respect, and most importantly, first team status that he had at Arsenal.

Despite being part of Barca’s youth academy, there is no guarantee that Fabregas will start every game when fit. Fabregas might have returned to his home. However, whether he will really feel at home is altogether a different question.

As for Arsenal fans, all we can do is thank him for eight years of service and hope that he goes on to do well at Barcelona. And finally, all we can say is

‘Goodbye Forever’.
