Manchester United can completely drop their hunt for Manuel Neuer as fresh transfer news indicates that Bayern Munich and Schalke 04 have agreed terms for the shot stopper to land at the Allianz Arena.
Speculations had always linked Neuer with a move to Old Trafford but the young goalie was never interested in becoming a Manchester United player. Last month, Manuel Neuer gave the following message while speaking to reporters:

“[Manchester] United scouts have come to Germany to watch me play in the past and I am absolutely flattered about that. However, a move to England was not an option for me at that stage.

“And I don’t expect to be in England, even though I respect the football and culture of that great football country.”

Alex Ferguson also fuelled the improbabilities of seeing Manuel Neuer at Manchester United as the manager—who’s been searching for Van der Sar’s successor—was quoted as saying on UK.Reuters.com late in April:

“I think we know that [Neuer will join Bayern Munich], we know that for sure.”

Indeed, reports from the media have confirmed on Thursday that the German goalkeeper is well on his way to Schalke 04’s rivals Bayern Munich—and this, despite protest from Bayern’s supporters. Trying to make himself clear on this transfer issue, Neuer explained that he didn’t say that he wanted to join Hollywood FC but that “anything is possible, basically” in football.

According to German magazine Kicker, Manuel Neuer is set to sign a 4-year contract with Bayern Munich which should see him earn €6M every year. The transfer fee agreed between Bayern and Schalke could go as high as €25M; this is because besides the flat fee which is worth €18M, Schalke could benefit from add-ons--€3M for Bundesliga glory and €4M for Champions League success.

Michael Neuer is likely to be officially presented as a Bayern Munich player during the third week of the month of May according to Kicker. The public will be curious to see if the youngster will win the hearts of Bayern Munich’s supporters and if he can impose himself as the next Oliver Kahn.
