The transfer saga putting Javier Pastore at the centre of speculations is on with new reports claiming that the Palermo star could be in Roma soon. Must Barcelona, Chelsea and co feel embarrassed?
Europe’s biggest clubs have always been after Javier Pastore. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder was on the radar of Portuguese giants FC Porto, England’s Manchester United and Chelsea as well as Italian club AC Milan during the 2009 summer transfer window. But the then-inexperienced youngster opted to leave Argentine side Huracan to join Palermo for a fee of around $8M.

Instantly, Javier Pastore captivated the club’s fans with impressive performances which inspired Palermo to a 5th place finish in the Serie A. Throughout the 2009/10 season, admirers Barcelona, Chelsea, Real Madrid and company didn’t take their eyes off “Huesito”. Those clubs, who have identified Javier Pastore as another version of the extra-terrestrial Lionel Messi, are still fighting for the signature of the player.

However, the Rosanero are trying to hold firm to maintain their key player at the Stadio Renzo Barbera. Rejecting transfer rumours and reports through the media has become the routine of Palermo’s chiefs.

Well, there should be no surprise at the transfer saga surrounding Pastore considering his talent. After all, “the best clubs want the best players”.

And besides Barcelona, few are the teams that can boast of developing stars from their youth system. Take Chelsea, for example, under Roman Abramovic; the impact of money has completely overtaken youth policies. Splashing money on the market for Pastore—who commenced professional football in Argentina—would just be one of those typical business moves by Real Madrid and company.

But here is bad news for giants outside Italy, because Il Corriere dello Sports claim that Javier Pastore is set to remain in the Serie A although he may not be seen at Palermo come the beginning of next season. Yes. Javier Pastore is on his way to AS Roma, according to the Italian magazine.

The Giallorossi’s reported €30M offer is part of Thomas DiBenedetto’s Roman revolution. Why would “Huesito”, who has 3 years left on his current contract with Palermo, not be tempted to help in the reconstruction of AS Roma’s fallen fortress?

A new challenge, a new life and perhaps even a new competition named the UEFA Champions League are at stake for Javier Pastore. Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid and AC Milan could offer the Argentine play maker the same things but the “smart” youngster is not ready to be blinded by the charm of Europe’s highest rank of elite clubs.

Javier Pastore made it clear in an interview with Sky Sports back in January that he doesn’t want to interrupt his development as a young player. Sky Sports quoted the attacking midfielder as saying:

“I am learning a lot [at Palermo]. I don't want to stop this. When I will feel ready to play for a great club, then I will go. But I don’t want to go now and after six months I get sent on loan to another club where I’d have to start again.”

Barcelona and company may not be thrilled to hear such statements from their prey. What they might prefer is Pastore’s comment 10 days ago, which revealed that “there is no contact with Roma”.
