Pirlo eyeing Pogba as first marquee Juve signing

Pirlo eyeing Man Utd star Pogba as first marquee signing at Juventus

August 14, 2020 By Ali M.
The Italian is reportedly keen on bringing the French World Cup winner back to Turin.

Andrea Pirlo, having recently been appointed the new manager at Juventus, is keen on strengthening the squad this summer. The Italian is said to have his eyes on one player as his first marquee signing as Bianconeri boss and that man is Paul Pogba.

Rumors linking the Frenchman with a return to Turin are nothing new. However, according to Tuttosport, Pirlo is keen on reuniting with the World Cup winner, having shared the pitch as players between 2012 and 2015. As team-mates, the pair enjoyed tremendous success, lifting three consecutive Serie A titles but would they be able to replicate that with a player-manager relationship?

Of course, the first and most important question is whether the Old Lady can bring Pogba back. Since leaving Italy for a return to Man United, the midfielder has endured a roller-coaster career with great highs but terrible lows as well. Not too long ago, the Frenchman appeared destined for an Old Trafford exit.

A dip in form plus the long-term injury he suffered throughout the 2019/20 campaign looked to be the final nails to the coffin. However, the World Cup winner has enjoyed a resurgence, striking up a lovely partnership with superstar Bruno Fernandes in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield.

Regardless, Tuttosport claim Juventus have a plan to convince the Red Devils to let Pogba go and that’s by offering Paulo Dybala in exchange. The Argentine was named the MVP of the 2019/20 Serie A season, having been an influential playmaker in Bianconeri’s title-winning campaign. Despite this, the South American reportedly does not fit what Pirlo wants in attack and could be used makeweight for a Pogba deal.

Would Man United accept this? A lot remains uncertain but what is known is that the club are keen on a player of Dybala’s mold. Jadon Sancho is the man they want but the recent rumors claim the Englishman will remain in Germany. Dybala, just like the Dortmund ace, can offer creativity and a goalscoring threat from the wing.
