Where to watch Southampton vs Liverpool

Southampton vs Liverpool live on April 05, 2019: Time, team news, broadcast listings

April 4, 2019 By Ali M.
In our match preview informing you how to watch Liverpool's league trip to Southampton, we compare team statistics and analyze both teams’ head-to-head record.

What is the form of Southampton compared to Liverpool?

Southampton heads into this game on the back of back-to-back wins in the league. This included a memorable 2-1 win over Tottenham back in March. However, those two were two of only three triumphs in their last eight games, losing against Man United, Arsenal, and Cardiff.

As for Liverpool, they are undefeated in their last 11 league games. Their last loss was their trip to Man City back in January, having won seven and drawn four since that Etihad Stadium visit.

Southampton vs Liverpool head-to-head record

While the Reds enter this clash having won their last three encounters with the Saints, their last defeat was not long ago. They suffered consecutive losses in 2017 in the League Cup while their last English top-flight loss at St. Mary's Stadium came back in March 2016.

Games played: 109

Southampton wins: 30

Liverpool wins: 54

Draws: 25

Who's injured/suspended for Southampton vs Liverpool?

Ralph Hasenhüttl will be without a few players for this showdown. Jannik Vestergaard and Michael Obafemi are long-term absentees while Shane Long is a doubt. Danny Ings is ineligible to face his parent club and will thus sit this one out but Mario Lemina is available after returning to training.

Klopp will be made to sweat over the fitness of Virgil Van Dijk who picked up a knock in the recent win over Spurs. This game also comes too soon for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Relegation battlers vs title contenders: who will emerge triumphant?

One side is one point adrift of the top spot. The other is five points clear of the relegation but will be on a few extra points in order to secure their survival. The question is which side will triumph.

Liverpool would be the safer bet. They haven't lost a league game for quite a while and are in the Premier League title race. They currently trade table-topper Man City by a single point and will thus look to avoid dropping further ground.

However, one should not underestimate a team battling to avoid relegation. Southampton has now put five points between themselves and the danger zone having played a game less than their rival. Can the Saints shock Salah and Co. as they did Tottenham not too long ago? Tune in to find out.
