Higuain's first-half stats in EPL debut revealed

Higuain's shocking first half stats in Premier League debut revealed

January 30, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Argentine international had a day to forget in his first taste of the English Premier League.

Gonzalo Higuaín's Premier League debut was one he may have never envisaged as per the statistics served up in his side's defeat to Bournemouth on Wednesday. The former AC Milan and Juventus forward was handed the opportunity to show fans of the Blues what the club had invested by taking center stage in an attacking trio featuring Eden Hazard and Pedro.

However, his first 45 minutes in the English Premier League was far from impressive with the 31-year-old striker failing to manage a single shot. The Argentine did not attempt a single dribble and also failed to land a key pass or create a chance.

In addition, his 25 touches in the first 45 minutes was the lowest tally recorded by any of Chelsea's outfield players. However, he delivered one long ball and successfully won one out of two duels.

With Chelsea lacking a little more sharpness in attack, Sarri ended Higuaín's debut by replacing him with Giroud in the 65th minute, attracting boos from the spectators. Still, the January signing's exit was inadequate to instigate a turnaround as Bournemouth held a two-goal lead during the period.

The Cherries piled more misery on the embattled Blues by adding two more goals to ensure a win over the Stamford Bridge outfit at the Vitality Stadium for the second season running. The defeat also fired Chelsea to its biggest defeat in the last 10 Premier League seasons.

Also, for the second time in the history of the competition, the Blues have lost a game by a four-goal margin. The first-ever was recorded in 1996 when Liverpool cruised to a 5-1 at Stamford Bridge.
