Currently on top of the Turkish Süper Lig, Fenerbahçe will certainly be coming into Thursday's Europa League clash full of confidence. Having lost just twice in the league, Vítor Pereira's men are in a good position to not just win the title, but also seal a spot in the Champions League for the 2016/2017 campaign. With the exception of a opening group stage loss to Norwegian side Molde, Pereira's squad have not been beaten on home turf so far this season. And the Yellow Canaries will be keen on making sure they keep this unbeaten European run intact. In terms of this competition, the best ever result Fenerbahçe have achieved was making it to the semi-finals in the 2012/2013 edition, where they were unfortunately knocked out 3-2 on aggregate by Portugal's most decorated club - Benfica.
Thursday's meeting with Sporting Braga will be the first time Fenerbahçe have faced the Archbishops, but neither the coach - nor quite a few players - will be unfamiliar with Portuguese opposition due to the visitors being based in their home country. So far, their record against teams from Portugal stands as four wins and four losses; at home they have won three and lost once.
However, Sporting Braga have also done decently for themselves in their Europa League campaign. They have picked up five wins from their first seven matches, whilst losing just once. Moreover, despite this being their first ever appearance in the round of 16, they have a solid record against Turkish opponents. Curiously enough, three out of their four victories have taken place on Turkish soil, all whilst not conceding a single goal.
As such, Fenerbahçe will be hoping to make their home advantage count - and make sure that Sporting Braga do not have another good evening in Turkey - as they hope to go as far in this season's edition of the Europa League.
