The Merseyside derby could not have come at a better time for Liverpool who have been in ravishing form as of late. After a horrendous start to the season, the Reds have now lost just once in their last 13 matches in all competitions and will be looking to be at their best against their arch rivals.
They would especially be in a buoyant mood after the character they showed in their last match against Bolton, when they came from a goal behind to win the tie 2-1 and thereby clinch a place in the next round of the FA Cup.
For club legend Steven Gerrard this maybe the very last Merseyside derby, the 34 year old is hopeful for a win but has maintained that he will not change his approach towards the game.
"It's the fixture that I look for at the beginning of the season," Gerrard told the club's official website.
"I love playing against Everton. I've got friends and family members who are big blues and it's all about the bragging rights in the city.
"I'll focus on [Saturday's game] exactly how I have done in the previous derbies I've played in.
"It's a bit different from a normal league game but I'm looking forward to that one and hopefully I can add to my good derby record."
Everton's form on the other hand has seen them spending most of the season in the lower half of the table. The Toffees have recorded a victory in just one of their last five matches which was a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
Despite of their poor form, Everton manager Roberto Martinez is of the belief that his side has improved since the beginning of the campaign and are full of confidence.
"Obviously, the last derby that we had at Goodison [3-3 in November 2013] was a phenomenal football game with plenty of goals and two teams with a real attacking mindset," the Spaniard said.
"I expect very much the same - two teams that are going into the fixture in very good moments of form.
"Liverpool have found their way of performing and are really enjoying a good run and we feel in a similar situation in terms of the confidence of the win that we had at the weekend."
Lazar Markovic could feature for Liverpool despite of suffering a knock against Bolton, whereas James McCarthy is expected to return for Everton and loan signing Aaron Lennon could also feature. Tim Howard, Leon Osman and Steven Pienaar have all been ruled out of Saturday's fixture.
