One man got severely punished, as Al Sahel conceded five at home to Al Qadsia on Sunday.

Scoring an own goal is an embarrassing moment for any player, almost everyone has been there.

The act of finding the back of your own net is delt with in different ways. Some receive a supportive, we-know-it-was-an-accident pat on the back, while others are scolded at and punished by the coach, goalkeeper, and/or defenders.

One man in Kuwait received the latter, and in shocking manner.

In Sunday’s Kuwaiti Premier League round of fixtures, Al Sahel played hosts to Al Qadsia in a Matchday 2 clash at the Abu Halifa City Stadium. Unfortunately, the home side were thumped 5-2.

One of those five goals conceded came courtesy of an ridiculous own goal. Astonishingly, that unfortunate player who scored the own goal was strangled by a team-mate immediately after the ball crept over the goal line.

To make things worse, the own goal was not even his fault, as it was the Al Sahel goalkeeper who ricocheted the ball off the player’s back and into the net in a clumsy attempt to clear the ball from his box.
