Discontent over Los Blancos' decision to choose the Spanish manager as Carlo Ancelotti's successor continues to grow among the fans, however.

It’s not officially official, but Spanish coach Rafael Benitez will be announced as Real Madrid manager, that is after the remaining terms yet to be discussed are smoothed over.

The former Napoli boss, having coached Partenopei’s last game in Sunday’s 4-2 loss to Lazio, which saw the Serie A side finish fifth and miss out on Champions League football, has arrived in Madrid and will hold further talks with the board in a deal which will see him take over as manager.

Believed to have arrived at the Spanish capital via Florentino Perez’s private jet, the 55-year-old tactician revealed he is excited to coach the 10-time Champions League winners, but admitted the deal is not yet complete.

“I am enthusiastic and happy," Benitez said. "Although there are things that still need to be discussed.”

Embarking on his coaching career at Les Merengues, when asked if this was the beginning of a dream, Benitez responded with “yes”.

According to Spanish publication MARCA, Benitez could be presented at Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Benitez will take over the helms at Real Madrid after the club decided on sacking Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti. The former AC Milan and Chelsea man, despite making La Decima come true, failed to pick up a single trophy this season, and was relieved of his duties as a result.

Ancelotti was popular among the Real Madrid fans and players, and had the backing of the club’s dressing room, whilst discontent continues to linger among the Liga BBVA side’s supporters in the club’s choice of selecting Benitez as his successor.
