The USWNT will look to maintain a long-standing unbeaten record against CONMEBOL teams when they face Argentina on Friday, February 23rd.

Fresh off a resounding 5-0 win against the Dominican Republic, the USWNT will look to secure their spot in the knockout rounds of the inaugural CONCACAF W Gold Cup on Friday when they face Argentina. The Stars and Stripes are certainly looking to make a good impression after their poor showing at last year's World Cup, and with her interim spell as head coach set to expire in May, it is safe to say that current manager Twila Kilgore will be hoping to conclude things on a high note.

Since taking over the USWNT following Vlatko Andonovski's resignation, Kilgore has yet to lose a match in charge. Including the team's comfortable 5-0 victory earlier this week, Kilgore has recorded seven wins and one draw from her eight games on the tactician's bench. In addition, the USWNT have never lost to Argentina in four past meetings, and overall have a strong track record when it comes to playing against South American sides.

Indeed, not only have the Stars and Stripes won 16 of their last 17 meetings against CONMEBOL teams, but also the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup hosts are unbeaten in their last 25 games against opponents from South America. That certainly does not bode well for Argentina, who finished last in their World Cup group last summer and come into this match having recorded a scoreless stalemate in their tournament opener against Mexico.

Argentina, who only had three attempts on goal (one on target) versus Mexico's 16 attempts (five on target), were clearly more keen on playing defense and got the one point that they needed. However, that strategy will surely come under an even sterner test against a USWNT side who have scored at least six goals in each of their last four clashes against La Albiceleste .
