The second Group A fixture kicks off on Saturday afternoon with Wales looking to change their poor form against Switzerland.

Wales will take on Switzerland in their first Group A fixture at the 2020 European championship. Having seen Italy hit Turkey for three in the competition's curtain-raiser, the Dragons are poised to make a first good impression by securing the maximum points. Five years ago, they defied odds to cruise to the semi-finals of the tournament and were only dealt a blow in their pursuit for glory by eventual winners Portugal.

This term, they have shown enough positive signs of possibly having another campaign to remember, putting together a five-game unbeaten run to finish runners-up to Croatia in the qualification round. However, their recent run will need a little more alteration as they failed to secure a win in any of their preparatory games ahead of the tournament. They enter the competition on the back of a 0-0 draw with Albania and a 3-0 defeat to France. Across the last 10 matches, they have managed five wins, three draws and two defeats.

Against the Swiss, they will hope for a better outcome this time as they have not particularly performed against them in recent years. In the last seven meetings between the pair, the Dragons have only managed two wins and have been beaten on seven occasions. Evidently, Switzerland will look to build on this important bit of stat as they contest against Italy and Turkey for qualification ticket from Group A into the next round.

La Nati have not had the best of luck in the European championship as they have been eliminated at the group stage three times before exiting the last edition in the Round 16 stage at the hands of Poland five years ago. A lot has changed since then and Vladimir Petkovic's chargers will be eager to secure a better finish this time around. They approach Saturday's encounter with a six-game unbeaten run across all competitions.

Preparations for the tournament proved to be a success as they managed wins over neighbors Liechtenstein, the United States and the Finnish national team. At the moment, they are without defeat since November last year.

Robert Page, Wales coach: "To be head coach, leading the boys out is going to be a great moment for me and an extremely proud day. [Whatever I say to the players] will be from the heart – tactics go out of the window then. What the Red Wall, the fans back home, want to see is you representing your country. [The players] will be ready, but they can't be too fired up because they have to play with their heads as well. It's about getting that balance right."

Petković, Switzerland coach: "[Wales] are awkward customers: very compact defensively and good in one-on-one situations. They also have a lot of good quality in the final third of the pitch. We want to dominate play, we want to get hold of the ball, we want to dictate the tempo of the game and we also want to have a cutting edge in the final third and score goals. To do all of that we need to be very focused."
