Preview – Barcelona vs Dynamo Kyiv
Barcelona will be in action in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, taking on Dynamo Kyiv on Matchday 3 of everyone's favorite European club competition. Having won their opening two games of the season, the Blaugrana will be looking to make it three wins out of three against the Ukrainian giants.
The Blaugrana enter this fixture having beaten Juventus 2-0 in their most recent UCL fixture. The Catalan giants traveled to Turin in the previous round and beat the Cristiano-less side 2-0 thanks to goals from Dembele and Messi. However, things have not been going well for Leo and Co. in La Liga.
The Spanish giants are winless in their last four Spanish top-flight ties, picking up only two points in two draws while losing the other two games. Pressure is racking up on Koeman to deliver given that Bartomeu and his board of the directors, the ones that appointed the Dutchman, are no longer at the club, having resigned.
Then there is the issue of Messi. The Argentine ace is yet to score for the club in open play, netting only three times in eight games across all competitions, with all those goals coming via penalties.
As for Dynamo Kyiv, they are without a win in the UCL so far this season, losing their opening fixture to Juventus before drawing 2-2 with Ferencvaros. In the Ukrainian Premier League, they are unbeaten, winning six and drawing twice in their opening eight fixtures. Could they pull off a shock Camp Nou victory? Tune in to find out.
Team news
Barcelona: Questions still linger over the fitness of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen as he lacks match fitness. Not only that, but the Blaugrana also have to make do without Samuel Umtiti, Philippe Coutinho and Ronald Araujo due to injuries. Gerard Pique is back from his suspension and should slot right back in alongside Lenglet. Pedri will be keen on another start after his impressive performance in the 2-0 win over Juventus while Serginho Dest will also be pushing for a spot in the lineup.
Dynamo Kyiv: The Ukrainian giants have a headache on their hands after several players tested positive for COVID-19. Head coach Mircea Lucescu revealed that he has only 13 players available for this fixture after nine contracted the virus. Heorhiy Tsytaishvili, Denys Harmash, Mikkel Duelund, Olexandr Karavayev, Tudor Baluta, and Mykola Shaparenko tested positive over the weekend, joining the previous three to have fallen ill (Heorhiy Bushchan, Vitaliy Mykolenko and Denys Boyko). Sergiy Sydorchuk and Artem Besedin are suspended.
