Chelsea will mark their return to Premier League action with an away clash against relegation-threatened Aston Villa on Sunday, June 21st.

Although they sit in the drop zone, Aston Villa will be hoping to achieve what will be a shock win over Chelsea. The Villians, however, have picked up just one point from their last five matches. In addition, the hosts have lost nine of their last ten fixtures against the Blues, and will be welcoming a Chelsea side who have lost just one of their last five games.

Fortunately for Frank Lampard, he'll be welcoming back a slew of key players, including World Cup winner N'Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, American star Christian Pulisic, and youngster Tammy Abraham for this fixture. The Blues currently sit in fourth place in the table and will be keen on keeping as much distance between themselves and fifth-placed Manchester United as possible, especially with the Red Devils having slowly worked their way up the table prior to the Premier League's interruption due to COVID-19.

Chelsea face a tricky clash with second-placed Manchester City in just a few days' time in their first home game following the interruption, and Lampard will naturally want his team to grab all three points against an opponent who are in dire straits in order to focus on that match against a fellow top four opponent. In fact, two of Chelsea's three games over this upcoming week are against teams battling for a Champions League spot, with Leicester City following the Manchester City game, so it's key for the Blues to head into this run of fixtures on the right footing.

Aston Villa, for their part, did hold Sheffield United to a scoreless draw in their last game a few days ago, which is promising considering they were on a four game losing streak prior to that. Moreover, Sheffield United have been surprisingly solid this term as they sit in sixth spot and are really pushing hard for a Europa League spot after winning promotion from the Championship last term, so the point earned by the Villians was quite the morale-booster.

That being said, it wasn't enough to help get them out of the drop zone just yet. Will they be able to end their frustrating hoodoo against the Blues to continue to claw their way out of danger? Or will Chelsea kick off their tricky run of fixtures off on the right footing with a historic sixth straight win over Aston Villa?

Aston Villa: Danny Drinkwater won't be able to feature due to restrictions from his loan from Chelsea. In addition, the hosts will be misisng Tom Heaton, Wesley, Bjorn Engels and Frederic Guilbert due to various injuries.

Chelsea: Jorginho, who has been linked with a move away to again join Maurizio Sarri, is banned for this match. Youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi will miss out due to a lack match fitness. Reece James is in doubt and Fikayo Tomori is struggling with a muscular injury so is ruled out for about a fortnight.
