For those Manchester United fans that were eager to watch Cristiano Ronaldo making a comeback to Old Trafford, Jose Mourinho just sent their hopes down the drain.
Speaking in the eve of the FA Cup final to Portuguese newspaper Record, Mourinho tackled reports from Spain that suggested a possible transfer involving CR7 and the Red Devils. According to Mourinho, Manchester United's options of signing Cristiano Ronaldo right now are slim, to say the least.
"I consider that Real Madrid can't sell him right now, they just can't. He will have to stay there until they give him the chance to go and enjoy playing in America or somewhere else. The door is shut for Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer," Mourinho stated.
Mourinho hinted that, if everything fell in its place, Manchester United could pursue Cristiano Ronaldo's signing, even if that possibility is nowhere near right now.
"I don't think so, but all the people know his history in Manchester, the passion they have for him and that there are players in the world who, if the clubs have the possibility of signing, will not say no," the coach added.
Mourinho and the current Ballon D'Or winner shared three turbulent years at Real Madrid. During their final season together, reports claimed that CR7 and The Special One didn't get along well. Since then, whatever problems they had seem to be in the past, as the coach and the footballer have been seen together in UEFA galas, praising each other from time to time.
