Filipe Luis is sure that Atletico Madrid winger Antoine Griezmann will play for the club next season. His recent comments come at a time when the 26-year-old has been making headlines in the world of football as speculations over his future continue to spread.
Griezmann is a top summer target for a number of European clubs. He has been consistently linked with a move to Manchester United, while rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to be keeping an eye on him.
The star forward has already found the back of the net 23 times this season. He is also one of the favourites to win the Ballon d'Or in the future, having emerged third in last year's awards.
But his teammate Filipe Luis is confident that the Bleus hitman will stay in the red side of Madrid next season. He said:
“We haven’t said anything to him. We are sure he will stay, he’s a genius. To see him every day, the talents that he has growing day by day, he’s a unique player, he gives you this genius.
“He has conquered me, and every day more so. Each game that goes by he shows me it’s not strange that he has fought for the Ballon d’Or [coming third behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi], because he is a different player.
“In a Madrid derby week, there are a lot of rumours.”
Griezmann is expected to lead Atleti's hunt for goals as Claudio Ranieri's men come calling later this evening. Having reached the final of the Champions League last season and lost to rivals Los Blancos, Diego Simeone's men will be hoping to up their game this season by clinching Europe's elite club title.
