Antoine Griezmann is an in-demand player. Despite claiming he’s happy at Atletico Madrid, reports continue to link the Frenchman with a move away from Los Rojiblancos.
L’Equipe (as per AS) have made a shocking claim about the 26-year-old’s future: he could leave Atletico soon, but remain in the Spanish capital. According to the French publication, neighbors Real Madrid are plotting a sensational move for the former Real Sociedad attacker.
Titled "The Secret Plan", the 11-time Champions League winners intend to move for Griezmann in 2018. One reason for this timeline is Real Madrid wish not to worsen the decline of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese superstar is the club’s talisman attacker, but at 32, his best days are behind him. The four-time Ballon d’Or winner has not been as devastating in front of goal as before, highlighting the need for an upgrade on the legendary goalscorer.
In 2018, Cristiano will be 33 and most probably a shadow of his former self. Should Real Madrid activate Griezmann’s 100 million euros release clause, Atletico will be forced into selling.
However, this claim by L’Equipe has already been undermined by comments from Eric Olhats – a Griezmann adviser. Olhats revealed that although Zidane’s side have asked about Antoine’s situation, a move to the Bernabeu is impossible due to a pact of non-aggression between the two clubs which prohibits one club from signing another’s player.
