England international Marcus Rashford is yet to come to terms with the fact that he will be playing for the Three Lions in the Euro 2016 which kicks off on Friday in France.
The 18-year-old has had a meteoric rise since making his debut for Manchester United against Danish side Midtjylland last season.
He was named in England’s final 23-man squad that would represent the country in France, and now finds himself dinning with superstars such the likes of Wayne Rooney at the luxurious L’Auberge du Jeu de Paume hotel in Chantilly.
Rashford also scored on his debut for England during an international friendly match against Australia and his performance instantly wowed the crowd, prompting coach Roy Hodgson to include him in the final squad.
In an interview with the English FA, he said:
“To be fair, I tried not to think about it too much because that’s probably where the pressure and stuff starts to get to people’s heads and affect their performance.
“For me, I was just concentrating on playing how I’d been playing and all of a sudden the goal came. It’s a good way to start.
“When I first went into the changing room and saw all of the players’ names on the back of their shirts, it didn’t seem real.
“I remember going home after and speaking to my brother about it and he agreed with me — he didn’t think it was real either. That’s what it’s like until you get used to it.”
Rashford’s rise to fame and recognition with England was faster than his Man United teammates’ Wayne Rooney, who had played a full season at Everton before featuring for his country at the Euro 2004. England open their Euro 2016 campaign against Russia on June 11 at the Stade Velodrome and all eyes will be on the youngster if he makes it to the starting lineup.
