With a 24 point lead at the top of the table, PSG will certainly be forgiven if they opted to kick back and relax a bit. However, Les Parisiens, who for all intents and purposes are already the Ligue 1 champions, will want to improve their performance after suffering their fourth draw of the season in a surprise 0-0 result against Lille. On the opposite end of the spectrum will be Reims, who are struggling just to stay afloat in French football's top flight and could be in for a long evening at the Parc des Princes.
PSG
PSG will be coming into this match having defeated Chelsea 2-1 in their first leg of the Champions League round of 16. This leaves this tie delicately poised as the Blues now have a vital away goal in hand, and the re-match at Stamford Bridge next month will be one surely not to miss. However, until then, Laurent Blanc's men will have to contend with domestic competition and will be seeking to make it a 36th Ligue 1 game without defeat as they welcome Reims on Saturday.
In addition, having dropped just eight points all season - with just four draws - PSG are certainly in contention to make history as the first ever French team to complete a campaign sans defeat. With the title firmly in their grasp, they nonetheless will want to bounce back following their scoreless stalemate against Lille with a resounding performance in front of their home fans.
However, Reims, despite their struggles, gave them quite a hard time in the reverse fixture earlier this season. In fact, were it not for Edinson Cavani's late goal, Les Parisiens would have seen their hopes to become the first team to finish a season without a loss go up in smoke.
Although Reims have not beaten PSG in any of their last five matches, this contest has been a lot closer than one would have expected. Despite having beaten them at home in their past three home fixtures, their past trio of meetings overall have either ended in a draw or a slender win by just one goal.
Following the draw with Lille, expect Blanc to field a rotated - but stronger starting XI - as he seeks to effectively clinch the title so that the team can focus on their European ambitions. With the exception of Javier Pastore, who is still struggling with an injury, PSG's squad is at full strength. Cavani, who started from the bench against Chelsea and scored the game-winner, is expected to be rewarded with a starting position for this fixture, but both Thiago Motta and Marco Verratti could be relegated to the bench.
Reims
Meanwhile, Reims appeared to have turned a corner with two back-to-back wins against Caen and Angers, but Olivier Guegan's side suffered a setback as they were unable to find a way past Bastia. As a result, the visitors currently sit in 17th place, with 29 points and are just two away from the dreaded drop zone.
Unfortunately, Guegan will be missing quite a few players for this fixture. Hamari Traore will be unavailable due to a ban. And Hugo Rodriguez, Frédéric Bulot, Jordan Siebatcheu, and Grejohn Kyei are all still on the treatment table, with Alexis Peuget being in doubt after suffering some muscular problems. However, striker Nicolas de Préville should be able to feature after being given some time off to recover following a knock.
The first and only time Reims have defeated PSG was back on March 2, 2013, when they powered past Les Parisiens 1-0 despite having to play with 10 men for the last 30-plus minutes of the match.
