As Premier League Champions Chelsea continue to struggle at the bottom half of the table, all eyes are on manager Jose Mourinho who is currently facing one of his worst moments at the London club.

Flashing back to August 8, 2015, Chelsea were struggling to get their opener against Swansea when Belgian forward Eden Hazard picked up an injury that needed urgent treatment.

At that particular moment, team doctor Eva Carneiro and physio John Fearn raced on to the pitch to treat the injured Hazard. The game ended in a 2-2 draw. A disappointed Mourinho made a statement during a post-match interview that would change his life at Chelsea and bring more pain than he had anticipated. His statement marked the beginning of a series of disappointments and poor results for his club and judging from the recent occurrences both on and off the field, more is yet to come.

During the interview, the Portuguese manager branded the two medical staff as ''mpulsive and naive.’’ He claimed that by treating Hazard, Chelsea were down to nine men, albeit temporarily, since Thibaut Courtois had been sent off earlier in the match.

Eva, despite her silence, had been planning a secret revenge against Mourinho in form of an expensive lawsuit

Eva Carneiro files a lawsuit against Mourinho

Eva’s role at the club diminished with time and by August 11 the same month, she was only allowed to attend the team’s training sessions. Although FIFA’s chief medical officer Jiri Dvorak came out to defend the duo, who were acting under the referee’s instruction to administer treatment to the injured player, the damage had already been done. After being banned from the bench during Chelsea’s next fixture with Manchester City, a frustrated Carneiro left Chelsea on September 22.

Three months down the line, Mourinho’s life at Chelsea has been hell on earth, to say the least. The former Real Madrid tactician has registered a series of loses, most recently against Liverpool at the Stamford Bridge. He has suffered humiliating loses against lowly-ranked sides such as West Ham United, Everton, Southampton and FC Porto in the Champions League.

For a man who rarely weighs his words carefully during post-match interviews, his verbal attack on the team’s medical staff marked the beginning of his woes. But it seems Eva is doing just fine and gearing up for a counter attack against his former boss.

On Thursday, the lawyers of the former Chelsea team doctor reportedly notified her old employers of her intentions to file a lawsuit against Mourinho for constructive dismissal. If the case is resolved, the 42-year-old could land a lucrative deal at Charlton Athletic as the new team doctor at The Valley. Mourinho is expected to receive the legal documents from the Gibraltar-born British medical expert who served the London side from 2009 to 2015. If she wins the case, the club will have to part with thousands of pounds as compensation.

Jose Mourinho’s tongue has cost Chelsea a total of 181,000 pounds in fines within the last 10 years, which is 4,000 pounds less than what Diego Costa earns a week. His most recent fine was worth 51,237 pounds after he accused referee Robert Madley of failing to award The Blues a penalty during the 3-1 loss to Southampton. Additionally, the 52-year-old was also handed a one-match ban for his comments. However, his attack on Eva could prove to be the most expensive and regrettable decision he has ever made as Chelsea boss.

The controversial manager has a solid history of verbal fights against his rivals. While that might seem okay in the world of football, Mourinho’s greatest mistake was attacking Eva, a darling of many Chelsea fans, without thinking twice about the possible consequences. It would be interesting to see just how far Eva will go to revenge against his former boss. With an impending lawsuit from his new nemesis and excessive pressure from the club’s top hierarchy, Tuesday’s Champions League match against Dynamo Kyiv would the ultimate make it or break it moment for the embattled manager.
