Group C of this year's Gold Cup will feature the all-time winningest team in the tournament: Mexico. El Tri, currently going through complicated times, will try to erase all the doubts surrounding them by winning their group stage matches against Guatemala, Cuba and Trinidad & Tobago, which share the group with them. Although it seems like a one-horse race for the first place, the rest of the National Teams can easily shock El Tri if they put their mind to it. The games for this Group will be held in the cities of Chicago, Phoenix and Charlotte.
Mexico
Miguel Herrera's "honeymoon" with his fans ended this year prior to the disappointing Copa América performance. His public image has deteriorated in recent months, since the coach has been more busy shooting commercials than working with his team, and fans are not seeing the results Herrera promised when he took the job. CONCACAF forced Mexico's Football Federation to bring their best players to this tournament, and El Tri complied with that request by calling up shot-stopper Guillermo Ochoa, FC Porto's Hector Herrera, PSV's Andrés Guardado and Real Sociedad's main man Carlos Vela. The absence of Javier "Chicharito" Hernández will hand a serious blow to the team's chances, after the former Real Madrid player came down with a fractured collarbone during the team's final warmup match against Honduras. Make no mistake about it: if Miguel Herrera's team can't display good form in the tournament, the coach's job will be at stake.

Cuba
"Los Leones del Caribe" will want to repeat their surprising run from 2013, where they reached the Quarter-finals for the first time in the team's history. Cuba usually suffers from desertion at any stage of the tournament, so it is complicated to point out which players can be key to their performance. One of those footballers that will provide the needed experience for the team will be the 36-year old Yenier Marquez Molina, who's goal in the last Gold Cup sealed Cuba's ticket for the knockout stage. Los isleños get to the tournament with nothing to lose, and they could provide one or two shocking moments in their Gold Cup run this year.

Trinidad & Tobago
Stephen Hart's Soca Warriors want to make the good times come back, but their chances of progression will highly depend on what they can do against Guatemala and Cuba. In a team that's built up around striker Kenwyne Jones, the team from the islands will try to repeat their performance in the 2000 Gold Cup, where they ended up reaching the semi-final stage. Added to Jones' talent, coach Hart will have available a number of players currently performing in the MLS, such as Cordell Cato, Kevan George and Joevin Jones, each of them coming handy due to their ball handling skills and quickness.

Guatemala
After missing the 2013 edition, the Guatemalan Football Association took steps for them to never miss the competition again, and they seem to be working out. Former Comunicaciones coach Roberto Sopegno took over coaching duties in 2014, and their second-place finish in the Central American Cup, where they were narrowly beaten by Costa Rica, proved to CONCACAF's teams they meant business. Midfielder Marco Pappa and all-time scoring leader Carlos "Pescadito" Ruiz will be there to help the team reach the knockout stage, while Sopegno expects his experiment of calling up a good number of his former Comunicaciones players pays up during the tournament.
