FC Bayern, placed first, takes on a Gladbach side which is a point behind fifth placed Schalke.
Bayern and Gladbach took on each other three times last season. Gladbach caused a lot of damage to a Bayern side looking to win the title. Bayern was beaten in both their Bundesliga encounters but earned a small amount of revenge when they knocked Borussia out of the DFB Pokal semi-finals.

Bayern’s meetings with Gladbach last season will perhaps be remembered by Bayern fans for Manuel Neuer’s errors. An error from Jerome Boateng and Neuer led to the only goal, scored by Igor de Camargo, in the first encounter. Neuer started the rot in the second fixture in Borussia Park too as his clearance found Marco Reus who beat him easily.

For Borussia Mönchengladbach, the two fixtures of last season perhaps remind their fans of the wonderful players they possessed. Roman Neustadter moved on a free transfer to Schalke which is a shame as he is a valuable player as Schalke has found out. Dante, the immovable rock at the back, moved to Bayern and Marco Reus headed back to his hometown, Dortmund.

Dante recently spoke of his gratitude to Gladbach. He mentioned that Gladbach had paved his way to a move to Bayern. He has quickly become Jupp Heynckes’ first choice centre-back. Reus meanwhile has settled wonderfully in BVB, playing a massive part in their victory in the Group of Death in the UEFA Champions League.

Jos Luhukay did complaint in the summer after the departure of his stars but purchased some fine players too. Luuk de Jong was one of them. He returned from injury against Fenerbahce in the Europa League and helped his side to a massive 0-3 win. Granit Xhaka though hasn’t quite lived up to his reputation yet.

In terms of existing players, Luhukay can always count on Juan Arango to do something spectacular. Arango might just have notched the goal of the season award when he scored against Mainz in injury time last week. Arango is the one in the side who provides the creativity.

Bayern meanwhile is coming into this one on the back of a decent run of results including a win over Augsburg last week. The win was slightly labored; this was more down to how good Augsburg was. The Bavarian derby was tight and Bayern had to squeeze out a thirteenth win this season in the Bundesliga.

They will be looking for a fourteenth and will want some revenge for the events of last season. Bayern was embarrassed at Borussia Park especially by the dangerous duo of Reus and Patrick Hermann. Bastian Schweinsteiger’s late goal was nothing more than a consolation and 3-1 was a score-line which really flattered Bayern.

They played well in the Pokal semi-finals but did need penalties to win. Arjen Robben and Luiz Gustavo won’t seemingly be back on the pitch for them in this one. Holger Badstuber is out for almost the entire season of-course. The good news is that Mario Gomez is back for Bayern and he is scoring freely. Javier Martinez injured himself in training this week but should be ready to play nonetheless.

Prediction: Bayern 3-1 Mönchengladbach
