Kaka will have to wait much longer before making his national team return. Along with Marcelo, the 29-year-old midfielder’s unavailability for Brazil’s upcoming friendly matches has been confirmed.
The last time Kaka defended his country’s colors on the pitch was back in 2010 when Brazil lost 2-1 to the Netherlands in the quarter-finals of the World Cup. Since the start of this season, however, the Real Madrid player’s performances have been encouraging.
“I had always said, and he was aware of it, that if he returned to form and he started to play regularly again, he would return to the team,” Brazil coach Mano Menezes told the press last month after announcing Kaka’s presence in the roster for November’s Gabon and Egypt match.
Responding to the news, the former AC Milan player left the following message on Twitter:
“I'm very happy with the call to return to the Brazilian national team. After a long period away, the thrill of being back is great. I want to thank everybody who waited for this moment just like me.”
Real Madrid’s Jose Mourinho endorsed Kaka. Speaking to the club’s official website, the Portuguese coach stated last month:
“I've known the real Kaka. He was a fantastic player when I was in Italy. Real Madrid have never had that version of him and he's finally found physical balance above all.
“He enjoys playing football. He is strong and is good at changing the pace to the game.
“It's only natural for him to return to the Brazilian national team and I'm happy for him because he's earned it through hard work. Football should rejoice at Kaka's return.”
But now, events have taken another turn. Kaka, who has already made 13 appearances and scored 4 goals for Real Madrid this season, won’t be in Libreville on November 10 and in Doha on November 14. The superstar is carrying a calf injury.
