A conversation between Los Blancos' president and one of his assistants kept the under-fire boss in the hot-seat ahead of Sunday's clash

Seems that Julen Lopetegui needs to buy someone dinner if he can maintain his job as Real Madrid's boss beyond El Clásico.

A report by Spanish newspaper El Confidencial revealed how close Florentino Pérez came to sack Lopetegui this week. The incident took place right after Los Blancos' 2-1 win against Viktoria Plzen, when the team suffered to keep their two-goal lead unscathed.

The report suggests that Florentino Pérez was "enraged" by the team's performance, setting the mood for him to sack the former Spain boss. Nevertheless, sporting director José Angel Sánchez stepped up to save Lopetegui's job, arguing that firing the Spanish tactician would not be a good option, especially with El Clásico right around the corner.

Sánchez allegedly urged Florentino Pérez to find a suitable replacement for Lopetegui before making any harsh decisions.

In the past few weeks, names such as Antonio Conte, Santiago Solari and Guti have been linked to the Spanish giants as possible replacements. Even if they've been tempted by the possibility, all speculation could come to an end if Real Madrid can walk away from the Camp Nou with all the points.
