Benfica will take on Lyon in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday, August 1st.

As per its annual pre-season tradition, Benfica will take part in the Eusébio Cup. This year, the cup, which is named after club icon Eusébio, has been incorporated into the largely American-based International Champions Cup as the tournament aims to have a more international presence worldwide.

Benfica, who will take on Lyon, will be hoping to rebound after failing to find a way past Borussia Dortmund and Juventus. Although the Portuguese outfit managed to pull level with die Schwarzgelben after going 2-0 down, it failed to progress when it came down to penalties. The same happened against La Vecchia Signora, where in that instance Benfica thought it was managing to hang onto a narrow 1-0 lead, but again struggled during the penalty shoot-out.

Thus, having failed to win a game so far, Benfica will hope that its home pitch advantage will help as the Primeira Liga runners-up face Lyon on Wednesday. Kick-off is expected at 16:05 EST, and it will be the first game of this competition for Les Gones. Will Lyon, who finished in third in last season's Ligue 1 campaign pick up its first win of the International Champions Cup? Or will Benfica finally earn a much-needed victory in front of its home fans?
