Valverde’s side has dropped form in recent ties, having drawn three out of their last five league games. However, that might not even be the manager’s biggest worry, as he will have to prepare his men to cope with the in-form attacking duo of Diego Costa and Antoine Griezmann.
The return of the Spanish forward has given the club a huge boost, as they have now picked up 25 points out of a possible 27 in 2018. Furthermore, Costa’s second debut under Simeone has also coincided with the Frenchman’s rejuvenation.
The former Real Sociedad winger has scored 20 goals for his club this season, with 13 of those coming since striking a partnership with the former Chelsea forward. Griezmann, who scored all four goals in the 4-0 win over Leganes last weekend, is thriving alongside the Spaniard.
Costa has also been contributing to the attack. He is not their leading scorer but he has had a hand in eight goals – scoring five and assisting three – in the nine games he has played since being eligible to play for the Madrid giant.
Barcelona has the league’s top two scorers in the form of Messi and Suarez, meaning Simeone’s side has their own worries. However, the Camp Nou side will have to be on their toes against the rampant Costa-Griezmann duo.
