The Gabonese ace was expected to make his debut in Saturday's home clash with Everton, but that might not happen.

With Arsenal preparing to return to action after the end of an eventful January transfer window, Arsene Wenger met with reporters for the usual press conference. Two big topics for discussion surrounded new signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and underperforming Alexandre Lacazette.

The Gabonese forward became the Gunners’ record signing on Deadline Day to replace the departed Alexis Sanchez. However, his arrival raised questions about the future of their previous most-expensive signing: Lacazette.

The Frenchman arrived at the Emirates Stadium amid excitement over the summer but has not found the back of the net as often as fans would have liked. The former Lyon ace could now face a fight to keep his starting role due to Arsenal’s January arrival.

When asked about his future, Le Prof’s gave a worrying response. The North London boss refused to give Lacazette any assurances.

“I don’t reassure anybody,” Wenger said about his number 9, as per the Metro.

“It is a competitive sport and you must fight for your places.

“You have to show them respect and they have to accept it is a competitive world.”

While some fans feel for the French forward’s current predicament, others might not mind his demise if Aubameyang is scoring for fun. The League Cup finalist is in sixth position and needs a resurgence to avoid failing to qualify for the Champions League for a second straight season.

Their next game is a home clash with Everton, but the former Dortmund ace’s debut might sadly be pushed back. Wenger revealed ahead of Saturday’s game that their new signing is ill and might not recover in time for the weekend tie.
