Fans wondering whether the Gunners duo will be sold mid-season finally have their answer.

It is the question on every Arsenal fan’s mind: will Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil leave the club in the January transfer window? Their departure would severely hurt the Gunners’ season, but it’s a logical move from a financial standpoint.

The Chilean and German both look destined to leave the club at the end of the season. Their contracts expire next summer, with both players reportedly turning down extensions in favor of an exit.

Selling the duo in January would earn Arsenal money – albeit it will be for pennies due to their contract situation. With the winter transfer window close by, Le Prof was asked this question during a pre-match press conference for their midweek fixture.

Le Prof’s response may please several Gooners, as the Frenchman insisted that the duo will not be sold in January. However, Wenger did not entirely rule out a mid-season departure for the Chilean and German aces, admitting that only “something unbelievable” could see them leave.

Wenger said (as per the club’s official website): “At the moment, as long as they are here, they have to give their best for the team and for the club. In my head, they stay until the end of the season and that’s a decision that was taken at the start of the season. Unless something unbelievable happens, I can’t see why that would change.”

What is “something unbelievable”? Wenger did not elaborate, but the long-serving tactician holds hope of the two remaining at the Emirates, saying his gut tells him they will stay.

The Arsenal boss could not promise they will stay past their current contracts, as he admitted that the decision of remaining in North London past next summer lies with the players. The only thing Wenger should focus on right now is the Gunners’ next game: a home clash with Huddersfield on Wednesday.

Alexis, having scored the winning goal in the 1-0 triumph over Burnley last weekend, is expected to start on Wednesday. Ozil, who missed Sunday’s game, is unfortunately tipped to sit this tie out as well due to illness.
