Wales have been dealt a huge blow in the form of Gareth Bale's unfortunate injury. The knock to the Spanish Primera Division star will sadly sideline him from the last two World Cup qualifying games, as announced by the Welsh FA.
The Dragons are to face one of their last hurdles for World Cup qualification in their final two Group D qualifiers against Georgia and Ireland. However, with Bale's continued exclusion from all games on a national and club level due to a calf muscle strain, there is concern over Wales’ chances of sealing that playoff spot.
As of now, Wales sits second in the table, a point ahead of third-placed Ireland who they are set to lock horns with this coming Monday. Meanwhile group leaders Serbia sit four points and are thus favorites to grab the only automatic qualification in Group D.
This news comes despite assurances from Zidane that his star striker would be in shape to join his national side. However, after missing Real Madrid's 2-0 win against Espanyol, Chris Coleman squad have named Tom Bradshaw of Burnsley as the former Tottenham ace’s replacement.
With no word on Bale's return as of now, another young rising striker for the Welsh squad is predicted to profit from his absence: 17-year-old Ben Woodburn.
He recently made quite the splash with two key moments for his national side, scoring the winning goal a mere 5 minutes into his substitution against Austria and the assisting the first goal in Wales' 2-0 win against Moldova.
