You have probably heard the rumors: Barca are after Philippe Coutinho. It remains to be seen whether this move will materialize, but the logic behind it comes as no surprise – the Liverpool star is a gifted player who could bolster the Blaugrana’s attack.
Neymar’s departure to PSG forced the Catalan giants to go all out for a replacement. Coutinho had already been on the Spanish giants’ radar, but the loss of one-third of their MSN trio forced them to intensify their Philippe chase.
Two previous bids were rejected by the player’s Premier League employers, but Barca are confident that £100m – plus Coutinho’s desire to move to Camp Nou – will convince Liverpool into selling. The Blaugrana have already sent officials to England to finalize the move.
Oscar Grau, Raul Sanllehi and Javier Bordas all boarded a flight with the aim of wrapping up the deal by Tuesday night, according to the Daily Mail. The aim is to have Coutinho debut against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.
Mundo Deportivo, however, claim that the Copa del Rey champions will continue to spend in the transfer market even after completing the Coutinho deal.
The Spanish news outlet report that Ousmane Dembele is their other target. The BVB starlet, however, is priority number two – after Coutinho.
The report mentions no transfer fee, but the Bundesliga outfit reportedly want at least €100m for the Frenchman. Mundo Deportivo contradict the previous report by the Daily Mail by claiming that Barca’s officials are in fact in Germany to wrap up the Dembele deal before focusing on the Liverpool ace.
