Due to their Euro 2016 success, Fernando Santos’ side takes their spot in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup – due to kick-off on Saturday, June 17th. Here is what is in store for Portugal

Portugal’s Confederations Cup record

As mentioned before, Euro 2016 is Portugal’s first major silverware. As a result, this will be there first appearance in this competition. They kick start their campaign against Mexico on Sunday before facing Russia followed by New Zealand.

Portugal’s current form

Portugal heads into this competition fresh off a 3-0 win over Latvia in the World Cup qualifiers. They have been in good form in 2017, losing only to Sweden in a friendly (P4, W3).

The man on the tactician’s bench 

Fernando Santos was named manager of Portugal on 23 September 2014. He took over the national side after their poor World Cup campaign in Brazil. Since then, he led them to their first major silverware – Euro 2016 – and has won 65.71% of his games (P35, W23, D4, L8).
