Lyon find themselves at the center of another violent fans controversy a few days after their Europa League fiasco. This time, it was Les Gones players who were the victim, as supporters jumped onto the field to launch an attack.
Lyon were warming up for their clash with Bastia in Ligue 1 when the opposing fans flooded the pitch. This happened after a heated altercation between Memphis Depay and one supporter, with the Lyon team retreating down the tunnel as stewards held back the fans.
Kick-off for the game was delayed but began after the attacked players were convinced to take to the field. Due to further troubles, the game was abandoned at half-time. The league will meet on Thursday to discuss punishments.
This comes after the crowd trouble that marred Lyon’s clash with Besiktas. The Ligue 1 giants are facing UEFA charges as a result of Thursday’s incident.
