AFCON’s most successful nation meets the tournament’s managerial expert
After missing out on the last three Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt are back in the tournament and look ready to make up for lost time. The competition’s most successful side topped their group without conceding or losing once.
However, they will meet Morocco in the quarter-final, led by manager Herve Renard. The French tactician has won the title twice in the last three competitions, lifting the trophy with Ivory Coast and Zambia.
The Morocco boss is the only head coach to have won this tournament twice. One more win will see him enter the record books by becoming the first manager to win a continental competition three times.
In addition to that, the Lions of the Atlas boast an excellent record against the Pharaohs. Egypt have not won against their fellow north Africans in almost 31 years. Their last win was in March 1986.
They will lock horns on Sunday, with the winner set to face either Burkina Faso or Tunisia.
