Hull City midfielder Ryan Mason had a terrible collision with Chelsea's Gary Cahill at the Stamford Bridge in the early minutes of the first half of their Premier League tie. The game had to be stopped for close to 10 minutes as the English player received treatment. He was then carried off the pitch and rushed to hospital. And now, the Tigers have released a statement to clarify more about the players condition amid fears that the injury was severe. The statement published on the club's website read:
''The Club can confirm that Ryan Mason sustained a skull fracture in our fixture at Chelsea this afternoon.
''He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital where he has undergone surgery.
''Ryan is in a stable condition and is expected to remain in hospital for the next few days.
''Everyone at the Club would like to express their sincere thanks for the excellent and swift care given to Ryan by both the Accident and Emergency department and Neurosurgery Unit at St Mary’s Hospital.''
Chelsea won the match 2-0 thanks to goals from Cahill and Diego Costa. The Blues now sit eight points clear at the top of the league table. Here are some of the reactions from the footballing world.
