The Mexican striker has been quite a sensation in his maiden season playing for Bayer Leverkusen, making fans wonder why he left Old Trafford

Even if Mexican ace Javier Hernández has been a massive hit in his first Bundesliga season, fans and experts can't forget about his stint with Manchester United.

The former Real Madrid striker, who has already secured the best goal scoring season of his career, revealed his desire to earn more playing time as the main reason to leave the Red Devils, even if fans still wanted him around.

"The fans wanted me to stay, but they wanted me to stay as a back-up. I did not want to wait any more. I looked for the team for three years. I focused on being there, on working, on being a good team-mate, on being ready. It was the time to look for myself, to look at my own goals," Hernández revealed in an interview with The Times.

The player hinted that hard work and dedication have played a huge role in his current success, and even criticized those who use their social media feeds to demand playing time.

"It is easy to say you don't want to train, to tweet or put a picture on Instagram because you are not playing, to fight with a manager. If the coach had told me I would be his No 1 striker, I would never have left, but I wanted to play,"the Mexican international added.

Man United fans blamed Louis Van Gaal for "Chicharito's" departure, but the player thinks differently.

Regarding his former coach, Hernández holds no grudge against the Dutch manager. In fact, he thanked Van Gaal for telling him the truth about his chances of having enough playing time.

"He was honest. In the first few weeks, he spoke to me and said he saw a good future, that I would have more chances than normal. It made me feel I could play. But then, after the start of the season, he told me he was thinking Wazza would be his No 1," the player concluded.

"Chicharito" is expected to lead Die Werkself's attack on Saturday, as his side hosts league-leading Bayern Munich at BayArena.
