It’s all over the news: Real Madrid are inches away from completing the transfer of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, much to the delight of their former shot stopper, Iker Casillas.

It’s Transfer Deadline Day and the reality is that David De Gea has still not officially completed a move from Old Trafford to the Santiago Bernabeu. The Spaniard has one year left on his contract and will be a free agent next year if he does not renew it. This situation favors Real Madrid. However, Manchester United are asking for nothing lower than £35M.

Last Sunday after their defeat against Swansea City, when asked about a last-minute move by De Gea, manager Louis van Gaal explained

“I don't know. We have to wait and see but I don't want to interfere.

“As a manager we have divided our tasks and the task is for Ed Woodward (United chief executive) and not for me. You can ask all the players but you have to wait and see until Manchester United make an announcement, or the club where he is going to make an announcement.”

He added:

“Otherwise he stays.

“But we have coped with the situation by buying Romero. That is what we have done as a club to settle that issue. We have done it well.”

According to The Guardian, Real Madrid and Manchester United are in advanced talks to agree on a £29.3M transfer deal for De Gea while the Red Devils are looking to grab the signature of Keylor Navas.

Meanwhile, Iker Casillas is hoping that his fellow citizen can complete his transfer before the window shuts down today. Speaking to Spanish magazine AS, the current Porto goalkeeper shared his thoughts:

“We hope that it turns out how he wants and that he’s happy. He is a fantastic goalkeeper.

“His professional situation isn’t how he would like but let’s hope he can resolve it soon and that it all goes well for him.”

Casillas put an end to his 25-year career at Real Madrid, earlier this summer. He joined FC Porto for amid claims by his parents, long-term friend Xavi Hernandez and several Madridistas that Los Blancos president Florentino Perez was "ungrateful". The Dragons are currently on top of the standings after three matchdays in the Primeira Liga. They’ve scored six goals, conceded only one and have taken seven points from a possible nine.
