The 19 year old is among three finalists who have been nominated for the Hyundai Young Player Award. Surprisingly, all the three nominees are no longer participating in the tournament. Buchanan however deserves to be on the list having produced consistent performances throughout the tournament. She is joined by Ada Hegerberg of Norway and Jiali Tang of China.
Her coach John Herdman had good words to say about the teenage defender, commending her for producing such mature performances despite of her lack of experience.
"To me, she's just a wonderful player and I think she really embraced the tournament," said Canadian coach John Herdman.
"She rose to the challenge.
"I think some people were asking the questions whether, as a youngster, she could step up on the big stage and she answered the critics. She certainly was a rock for us back there."
Buchanan is the only Canadian which has been nominated for any of the awards. She was part of the Canadian defence which conceded just thrice in five games but faces competition from the likes of Hegerberg who recorded three goals in the tournament and Tang who was played an important role in China's midfield.

The tournament ends with Germany vs England on Saturday and the ultimate final - USA vs Japan - on Sunday, July 5, 2015.
