El Tri returns to this tournament with the mission of performing way better than last time, when they were eliminated in the Group Stage for the first time in all their appearances.

Mexico's National Team will take on their first commitment this year with the best team available for this kind of tournament. Forced to leave home some of their top players, such as goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa or former Real Madrid striker Javier Hernández, flamboyant coach Miguel Herrera called up a series of reliable footballers to play in the South American competition. Although the Mexican media is skeptical about their team's chances of success, Herrera and his men have proved them wrong before, and they will surely want to do it one more time when they take on Bolivia, Chile and Ecuador.

Why can't Mexico take their finest players to this tournament?

Aside from their Copa America duties, El Tri will also play in CONCACAF's Gold Cup, which will start in July. Mexico is forced to take their best players to the tournament sanctioned by their confederation, and FIFA demands that all players must be given time to rest, so Mr. Herrera had to choose 46 different players to represent their country this summer. The only player that will be included in both competitions will be FC Twente's Jesus Manuel Corona.

One of Mexico's rising talents is Jesus Manuel Corona, who recently finished one of his finest seasons as a professional. He will be one of the players to watch during the course of this tournament.

What does history tell us about Mexico's Copa America performances?

This will be Mexico's ninth attempt to win the tournament, after being invited for the first time in 1993. El Tri has been a very competitive side while playing against the South American squads, making it to the knockout stages in seven of their eight previous participations, and even losing two final matches, one against Argentina in 1993, and the other against Colombia in the 2001 edition. Excluding their disastrous 2011 performance, where they could not make it past the Group Stage, El Tri usually fights for the top four spots, adding to their resume three third-place rankings.

Mexico's top players to watch

Even though Mexico could not bring their most talented squad to this tournament, Miguel Herrera managed to bring one El Tri's most recognizable players in the world: Rafael Márquez. The former Barcelona player will want to go out in style during what could possibly be his last tournament defending El Tri. Helping Márquez will be seasoned goalkeeper Jesús Corona, who won the Gold Medal in the 2012 Olympics. Up front, Jesús Manuel Corona from Twente and Atletico's Raul Jiménez are two of the most promising players Herrera will take to Chile.

Rafael Márquez will captain El Tricolor one more time with the help of Jesus Corona, who is often referred to as one of the finest goalkeepers in Liga MX.

Mexico's Copa América roster
