Tom Cleverley was expected to join Aston Villa permanently for £8M but the salary demands of around £60,000 per week hindered the deal. At Man United, the 24-year-old Englishman earned just about half of his asking price per week.
Everton could have afforded to negotiate with Cleverley but Manchester United turned down the Toffees’ £5.5M bid. This allowed the Villans to reignite their interest in the "unwanted one". The player will become a free agent in May as the Red Devils have no intention of renewing his contract.
According to Mark Ogden of the Telegraph, Aston Villa could purchase him for £7.5M during the January transfer window; that is, if Cleverley impresses Paul Lambert’s side.
