About Recopa Catarinense
History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Recopa Catarinense is a regional supercup tournament organized by the Catarinense Football Federation, or FCF. The competition saw the light in 2019 and features the winners of the Campeonato Catarinense and from the Copa Santa Catarina.
The competition is quite simple, as there is only one game between the teams that reach this clash to determine the winner. Extra time and penalties are used if the score is level after 90 minutes. League winners get home-field advantage for the Recopa Catarinense.
Contrary to what happens in other regions of the world, the league winners have not dominated this tournament over their cup winning rivals. After the first six editions, there has been a balance between the title winners, as league champions have won three crowns, while the cup winners have also won three editions of this competition.
The Recopa Catarinense has seen a handful of clubs come out on top, although Brusque and Figueirense have won two titles each. Other teams to participate in the competition without winning it are Marcilio Dias, Avaí, and Chapecoense.
