Qatar Stars League geschiedenis, opzet, organisatie, media-aandacht
De Qatar Stars League, ook bekend als de QSL en voorheen als de Q-League, is de hoogste voetbaldivisie van Qatar. Georganiseerd door de Qatar Football Association (QFA), werd de competitie opgericht in 1963, maar het eerste officiële seizoen vond negen jaar later plaats, in 1972.
De competitie heeft door de jaren heen verschillende veranderingen ondergaan, te beginnen met het aantal clubs dat deelneemt. De eerste edities werden gespeeld door negen teams, voordat de competitie werd uitgebreid naar twaalf teams voor de campagne van 2009-10. In 2013 werd het aantal deelnemers opnieuw verhoogd naar 14, voordat het uiteindelijk in 2017 weer terugkeerde naar 12 teams.
Het seizoen van de Qatar Stars League begint meestal eind augustus of begin september wanneer het weer in de regio begint af te koelen. Er is een systeem van degradatie en promotie van kracht, gecombineerd met een round-robin-format. De twee teams die als laatste eindigen degraderen naar de Qatari Second Division, terwijl de hoogst geplaatste teams (2-3 teams, afhankelijk van de prestatiecoëfficiënt van Qatar) zich kwalificeren voor de AFC Champions League, de belangrijkste continentale clubcompetitie van Azië.
