Ligwalagwala FM is a radio station from South Africa which is owned and operated by the South African Broadcasting Corporation. This station was first launched in 1982, but the format used in recent years can be traced back to 2008. Its headquarters are in Mbombela and it has been available for quite some time in most regions of the country.
Over the years, Ligwalagwala FM has seen its format change from talk radio to music. The station’s main goals have been to educate, to inform, and to entertain. All the spoken content on its grid is aired in SiSwati language.
Ligwalagwala FM has balanced its music content by focusing mostly on local music, which has occupied almost 70% of its airtime. The remaining 30% has been handed to international music, with house, kwaito, gospel, and rhythm & blues being the most played genres.
