About
Canal+ Décalé History, Coverage, Features
Canal+ Décalé is a French television channel owned and operated by the Canal+ Group. It was launched on April 27, 1996 as Canal+ Bleu, but it would later be rebranded to its current name on March 5, 2005. Curiously, the channel is known as Canal+ Sport Week-End from Fridays to Sundays in order to boost the network’s sports coverage.
Since its launch, the channel has been identified as an option to watch delayed broadcasts of shows previously aired by Canal+ or any of its sister channels. Over the years, Canal+ Décalé has been used as an overflow channel to cover major sports events such as the Olympic Games or the Paris-Bercy tennis tournament, also known as the Paris Masters Tennis Tournament.
During the days when the channel has been known as Canal+ Sport Week-End, the network has covered sports such as rugby, motorsports, basketball, tennis, and more. The first sports broadcast on this channel featured the French archery team in the 2016 Olympic Games.
Canal+ Décalé started out with a Standard Definition feed, but the network upscaled its offer with an HD feed that was launched on October 12, 2010. Both feeds are still available for fans to use either on France or in neighboring countries such as Switzerland, where this channel has also been available over time.
