Sports Plus 1 is a television channel from Hong Kong owned and operated by the Hong Kong Television Co. This channel was launched under the name Sports Channel 2 in 1999, and quickly evolved to Sports 2 in the year 2000. The channel then became a football-only channel in 2003, being named Football Channel since then. Eventually, the channel would undergo a new rebranding on April 3, 2018, when it would become known as Sports Channel 2, and it would settle with the name Sports Plus 1 on December 3, 2019.
Over the years, Sports Plus 1 has made a name for itself by covering disciplines such as football, basketball, tennis, volleyball, badminton, hockey, gymnastics, athletics, and multi-sport events such as the Olympic Games, the Asian Games, and more.
When it comes to football, Sports Plus 1 has aired content related to competitions such as the Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A, the English Premier League, the Japanese J1 League, and cup tournaments such as the DFB-Pokal, the Coppa Italia, and the League Cup, among others. Moreover, this channel has also included in its programming competitions such as the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, the Copa Libertadores, and the Copa Sudamericana.
National team football has also been part of Sports Plus 1’s programming, with games for the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Nations League being aired on this channel.
Sports Plus 1 was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed saw the light on January 1, 2011. Both feeds are still available to watch on most regions of the country, depending on the kind of package each subscriber has signed up for.
